We have just got our 2006 Pennine Sterling and I am looking at some upgrades to bring it up to date and make it more useful, thought I would ask before I reinvent the wheel.
Has anyone swapped the 12v sockets for USB? I would ideally fit quick charge? Does anyone know the make of the sockets used? It would be nice to match.
Finally has anyone swapped the cupboard light for LED and have any info to share.
I read some advice on another site which was to exercise caution converting your 12v sockets to USB because USB are a rapidly changing technology, but the 12v has been around for ages, is universal and isn't likely to change. You can always buy adapters for 12v to fit USB shapes and sizes, but looking long term, will you be able to get usb adapters to fit the new shapes??
I thought that made sense, but I'm no expert in the USB market, but seeing how my phone chargers have changed, I wouldn't be surprised if one day USB changes too.
That makes sense in some respects, but as the underlying system will still be 12v it would be easy to revert back.
There is already a change is the usb standard taking place, with USB C and Quick Charge coming in. This allows devices to request higher voltage. You can get USB-C modules to replace a 12socket but I need to do some measurements.
The idea behind it is to remove the need for adapters for our many devices. Our Sterling only has 1 12v point which is usable the other two are for the pump and lights so I would only change that one, then look to install another 1 or 2 in strategic places, probably next to the beds.
