My other half and I disagree about where to use our storm pegs! If we have 4 storm pegs where is the most protection? I say the 4 corner guide ropes and she says the 4 corners of the tent groundsheet. Any opinions out there???

neither! get proper straps to go over the tent, no good putting storm straps on guy ropes if they are only as strong as the fabric they are sewn into, which is often the fail point. and why on earth hold a groundsheet down with storm pegs? unless your planning to hide under it! lol

Buy 4 more and use them on the corners and the guys

However, if you only have 4 I would use them on the guy ropes.

Some trailer tent guy ropes are attached to the canvas AND the frame,so making them a very good pegging point.

We use extra long pegs on the 4 guy ropes ,that are set at about 45 degrees. The only down side pulling them out although since using a claw hammer its a bit easier.

If you have and FC or TT ... storm pegs should be used in conjunction with storm straps ...

Not attached to any existing guys which are fixed to existing canvas.

The storm straps should go over the outside and at points where the frame (underneath) is at or very near a down pole/joint ... thus securing the framework of the rig against heavy wind ...

At least ... is what we always did ...

The OP seems to have a tent with 4 corners and a guy rope on each corner

I wouldn't advise putting a storm strap over a polyester tent as the tent will move beneath it and could get damaged or at the very least the water repellent will be worn off. Some large tents have clips at each corner for fitting clip on storm straps.

With a normal tent the first advice is don't go camping if gale force winds are forecast but should you get caught out then take extra guy ropes and double guy if necessary.

I am not sure what a storm peg is to be honest...an extra long one or something? I use rock pegs for everything and every circumstance and have spares so if really necessary they could be doubled up and crossed over.

But, the 4 guy ropes on the top corners of most tents are the ones that are going to take most of the strain if the tent rocks in the wind, so I would suggest if you have storm pegs, use them on the 4 corner guy ropes.
