Get some lids from plastic milk bottles and screw them to the wood, put the legs in to the upturned lids and they won't be able to slip. Total cost for 4 is approx 2p for the screws and 5 minutes of your time.
I also use the same method for the wood I use underneath the step to stop it slipping on uneven ground.
