Hello, we are just about to buy a folding camper, has anybody fitted one of these? or what are your thoughts, it will only be used during the day and not overnight.

Never seen one fitted to a folding camper as they were designed for metal bodied vehicles.However, I have heard of them being fitted in fibre-glass boats. You will need a fairly decent leisure battery as they use quite a bit of power when first starting up (around 12 or 14 amps) this drops to about 4 amps per hour when they get warmed up. They can also be quite noisy which you will notice more with only canvas between you and the exhaust.The heater, fuel tank, fuel pump and air ducting will take up quite a bit of space.

Sounds very impractical for a folding camper. Diesel is messy stuff.

Calor gas is the usual and can be used for cooking and heating. Get propane for heating use as butane doesnt work in low temperatures.

You probably will want to use it at night if its cold.

The ideal heater for an FC would be an old Riviera heater which was floor mounted. Used only gas with no 12 volt required and was silent in operation.

No longer made but you might be lucky enough to get one 2nd hand.

not ideal if you have kids or dogs tho, them things get blooming hot and so does the grill that goes over the top! my feet still have the scars from when I accidently stood on ours

Agreed Marg6. Advantages are take up no space, need no 12volt supply, make no noise and keeps you nice and warm.

A modern FC heater would be a Propex but these are noisy and use quite a bit of 12 volt power and take up space in a locker.

I’ve got one (the under floor heater) in my old ‘94 Countryman I brought about 3 years ago. Not had to use it, not too sure how safe it would be to do so!

We always used a small oil filled rad ... left it on all the time with emu.

Worked very well, for no running costs.

We use a small fan heater,warms us nice,not to noisy and very warm
