We have a Penine Pathfinder which we bought in 2003 with a 3 way fridge. At Easter the campsite we were at kept losing power so we thought we would try using the fridge on gas (it was the first time we had bothered to try it !) Unfortunately there was no way we could get it to light. Is there a trick to it or have we got a dodgy fridge that possibly never ever worked on gas. ??
Ours was just the same. Didn't find out until two years after we bought the camper that the vent on the electrolux fridge wasn't connected up probably. The nice people at Mitchells in Wakefield fixed it for us when we took the camper for a routine gas service.
While they were doing it, I received some helpful advice from this site, including the need to make sure the camper was levelled for efficient cooling. The pilot light is very difficult to see in daylight (little window at lower back of fridge) and I have before now found it had actually lit when I thought it hadn't. The fridge seems slightly less efficient on gas than 240 volt ac and it takes a few minutes before the cooling effect in the compartment is apparent.
I suppose you are following the instructions fully. Normally this means you have to press in a knob, wait a few seconds, then operate the igniter button, which clicks loudly, until you see a flame. Keep the knob pressed in for about one further minute then let go. This time is to allow the thermal cutout to operate. Check the flame is still alight & everything is then OK. If it's not lit then start again.
You should also be able to see the electric ignition spark through the pilot light observation hole, though you may need some darkness to enable this. If you don't see one then the electrode may be too far from the gas nozzle to allow a spark, or there is some other fault, in which case it needs servicing.

I like the odd drink. Five is odd, seven is odd, nine is odd...........
I guess I will have to get it serviced after all, thanks for all the advice. We are going to Bude next week so we will have another go at it then(in the dark!!)and if it still does not work then we will get someone who knows what they are doing
Daft question, but is the gas supply on to the fridge - ours has a little isolation tap in the gas-bottle box (separate from the big, main switch-off knob) which was switched off when we collected the unit - our dealer spotted it at hand-over. If he hadn't, we'd have assumed there was something wrong with the fridge, taken it back to complain, and looked right wallies! I mention this because our dealer was VERY thorough on hand-over (took over an hour to show us everything) and I know not all dealers show this attention to detail and customer care!
I'm not sure which switch you are talking about. Where the gas bottles are stored there are two switches, onr green on yellow (they are like levers) I beleive that that this is the only switch that we have to switch on, and that it allows the gas to flow to the cooker (it works !) and the fridge. Although only one of these switches appears to go anywhere, pipe wise.
But now you've got me curious and i'm going out to look .....
I have found the best way to get round probs like this when on site is to go out and let the missus do it and then when it is aparent to all around that she is a dumb blonde looking so helpless she soon has a number of knowledgable male type people around to help.
In fact being serious (which I very rarely am) the best place to iron out any probs etc is on site, there are no people in the world like camping people for friendly helpfulness. and on a large site you can usually count t least one electrician one gas man etc. etc.

One possible culprit is the jet that gets clogged up. Unless you are competent you will need to get it serviced. Ours now does light after a couple of years pratting about!!
Don't know if I'm too late to help out on this problem but we just had the same problem with a second hand elecrolux that we bought and didn't realise exactly how long you have to hold in dial before pushing igniter. I f yours has these type of controls just hold the knob in for quite a while 15-20 seconds. Our model is rather old but once we sussed the problem it works well.
Yes we have tried holding the button in for about a minute and it still didn't light.
We are going to Bude for half term, so we will try it out again, using all the tips we have been given and if still no luck I think it will need to be serviced
Maggie you will find people in devon ie. Bude very friendly and helpful. If you have problems at 1/2 term why not ask site owners if they have any ideas; If they don't they may know someone nearby or onsite thst does.
We went to Woolacombe last year and everyone was just lovely and very laid back, thats why were going down that neck of the woods again.
Maybe if there is someone on site with an outfit like ours I may ask them (hubby dosent believe in asking - says women are better at it, how he copes at work i'll never know)to show me how it's done.
