Hi all!

We are looking to upgrade to a trailer tent very soon to replace our frame tent mainly because the creeping years make it uncomfortable to sleep at floor level

There seems to be a large amount of Conway Camargues available on Ebay and other areas and they certainly look impressive but could there be a reason for this? Can anyone help us with advice such as how are they to put up and are there any problems they might have.

Thanks

Sorry, I also meant to ask about the conway corniche.  Is this much the same other than size?  Thanks

Hi wolfie

the camargue is a good tent its quite large and easy to put up more or less the same as a corniche they are both old tents thats why lots are for sale, but if you get a good one theres no probs with them ive sold a couple of camargues on ebay this year and may have another one coming in next week so keep watching.

Thanks for the info Rexadoe, much appreciated.  I've put a few on my watch list on Ebay so I can get an idea of prices and conditions, etc.

I used to "own" a 1984 Carmaguel....well, it was a long term loan. Very large and it had been looked after well, so it was in nice condition. It was a very popular TT and good build quality...that`s why there are so many still around.

If you`re buying, then try to get one with the extra awning extension. It adds another three feet to the living area. It came with one underbed tent as standard but these are expensive, so two are better. Apart from that look for all the usual things when buying a second hand TT...sound trailer with all electrics working, canvas in good condition, zips all working and all internal sections present. (I never bothered with the ceiling liners or wardrobe section, but they might be important to you.) And kitchen unit should be in clean condition, with all legs working properly.

The only thinh I can think of that you might want to double check is that the steadies work and aren`t bent or corroded. They were a weak point on the Carmargue.

If they are that massive, it may be peeps get fed up with the pegging out.

Have you thought of a folding camper?

Take a look here for second hand www.conwayowners.org.uk

Very simple to peg out. Less pegging than a dome of similar size by a long way.

I've spent hours on this computer studying all the different choices and ended up more confused than when I started!!  We had decided to get a large TT but then we looked at FC's and can definitely see why they are preferable to many people. Cost will obviously be a deciding factor but who knows, break the bank and enjoy the comfort or stick to budget and sleep easier

Whatever we decide, thanks for all your comments.

Cliff.
