Hi there,
Wife and I have just bought our first folding camper, a 2011 Conway Cruiser. Now I’m bricking myself because I don’t know whether it’s braked or unbraked and if my 2010 1.6l Focus will manage it alright? I’m a newbie so please excuse my ignorance. Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Has it got a handbrake? If so it's a braked trailer, as far as I know all the folding campers are braked.
You haven't given any model/engine/gearbox details for your car so it's impossible to help with that question but generally a trailer that's lower than the car is easy to tow as it doesn't have the wind resistance and stability problems of a caravan. Check the weight plate on the trailer and the weight plate/handbook/V5 for the car and you'll be able to see if it's a suitable match.
Thanks. It has a handbrake. Because I don’t know how these things work, I just can’t figure out what difference that would make whilst towing by car. Is there some way to engage the brake while driving? Sorry if this sounds dense.
As far as the car’s concerned, I checked the V5 (thanks for that) and it’s fine as long as it’s ‘braked’.
Cheers
There will be a section of the draw bar covered in a sort of concertina rubber cover. The brake is in that. It senses the car braking and applies the brakes. If you suddenly brake hard, you will hear or feel it engaging.
