Hi everyone, it’s been a while since my last visit, following a series of life changing surgeries in the last 7 years. I’m due to be under canvas again. Thanks to being gifted a Conway Clipper DL, I’m hopeful I can go camping this year.
I was given this last autumn and it was in a poor state, mouldy/mildew on canvas etc, the rubber bands had mostly perished on the windows and pegging bands and it was filthy outside. I was able to briefly open it up and remove any fabrics that I could, inner tents, curtains etc so I could clean, repair and refresh and store indoors for the winter.
I allowed the tent to dry out for a few days and repacked the TT, covered it and left it until a few weeks ago when I had assistance with putting it up properly.
Since then I have cleaned, repaired and waterproofed the external canvas. Mostly got rid of the mildew stains, very slight marking remains now on the internal white canvas separating the sleeping area from the living area/awning. So far so good.
I have replaced all the elastics and clips for the inner tents, and the liners for the sleeping areas, so essentially we are almost ready for our first experience on a TT. I have fortunately gathered a lot of camping gear over the years so at least I’m not starting from scratch with bits and bobs.
Next project is the kitchen unit which I haven’t opened yet.
There is also an additional awning separate from the main canvas which I’ve been able to briefly examine, it doesn’t look in too bad a condition but I haven’t the space to erect that alongside the TT. Plus, where does that attach? I don’t think that there are enough poles left over for me to put it up anyway.
Sorry for the long post, but I’m pleased with everything I’ve managed to do on my own!!
