get a conway cardinal, no lifting involved, you have a hard top roof which you wind up (dead easy, even my 7 yr old did this when we had ours!) you pull the beds out like on big drawer runners and put a couple of legs under, you dont have to have the awning on it, then once inside its just a case of picking up the kitchen which is on a hinge and thats it done!

They cant match a Pathfinder, now where near.

i understood that lifting was the main issue, something you dont have to do with a cardinal at all, even for putting the awning up! all you do is thread the awning thr the channel and then put the canvas on the roof, wind the cabin up and then build the poles and pull the canvas over, something you cant do with a pathfinder

Yes, no problem with the towing. I am 69 and do France every year. The only issue we have is the time it takes to put up a trailer tent. Be sure you can do all the pitching etc in a sensible time and not get knackered.

Thanks everyone, going to buy this weekend, all being well, but delivery or collection not until February. Yes understand about pacing yourselves Paul, don’t mind the time in doing it, but as long as it’s not complicated. Practice makes for perfection. If it means putting up actual camper one day, then awning the next that’s fine, intend to have long breaks, until we are better. We live in Hampshire, so plenty of places, short distance away. Still trying to find a campsite with fly fishing though, to keep hubby happy, I’ve checked all the fishing camp sites, but only coarse fishing.

We are on our second Pathfinder and never had any problems with either the main unit or the awning which on occasions I have done on my own. But there again I am only 76. I dont really understand how a Cardinal can be compared to a more refined Pathfinder that has hot and cold running water ,electric flush toilet. gas oven ,ambient lighting, built in heating, A Cardinal is like a hard top tent in comparison.

Dimbles, there is no way i would have a toilet, ext to a bed with just a bit of fabric/board separating the 2! i have a caravan with fixed bed and end bathroom with the toilet on the furthest point away from the bedroom, and there are times when that distance is too close!

but im guessing its a long time since you last went in a cardinal, as the latest ones where of the same spec as your pennine, just a lot easier to do, believe me i tried them both out before we bought our previous cardinal, and no way could i/would i want to be doing the pennine on my own

Over the years I have been in several Cardinals, and did look at one with the the idea of purchasing it, we do like the neat appearance of them, after weighing up the pros and cons of all the campers we looked at the Pathfinder suited us best, and was what we purchased, As I have already said we are on our second Pathfinder, Before buying our present Pathfinder we had the idea of a change, After looking we could not find anything that suited us better, so a newer and later Pathfinder it was. We all have our likes and dislikes, It would be a very boring World if we were all the same, We pay our money and make our choices.
