Just been over to the Folding Camper for a quick check and to lay some new floor tiles in the kitchen area (more on that later), but as I opened up, I noticed a small round something hanging from one of the poles, it was about the size of a golf ball, beige in colour.
I plucked it free from the pole and peered into the hole, inside was a little honeycomb shape with little grubs in the honeycombs (about 4 or 5), I discarded of it in the nearby woodland.
I started to lift up the old tiles and became aware of buzzing, looking in the direction of where the nest was, I saw a rather confused and largish Wasp!. For the three hours plus that we were there, the wasp kept flying off and returning to try and find the nest, I felt quite sorry for it really. I did consider a mercy killing, but tbh, it wasn't doing any harm so I left it alone in the hope that it'll eventually get the hint and go find a safer place to nest.
We are going away next Monday so I will be able to check the FC again, if the wasp is still about, I may have to reconsider my live and let live ethic.

its a queen wasp and it will start another nest if the old one is destroyed now. In a couple of weeks she will no longer be able to fly but the nest will be self supporting by then ( even the new one). the best time to kill a wat nest is now while its only one wasp to kill. Hate to say this but she will be back with a bigger nest before you discover it. Might even be somewhere that makes life dangerous for you. If you see her again, kill her. Its only one life then, not thousands.

I `ate wasps...

Must agree with Brian on this one.  We had a the start of a nest in one of our sheds. Removed it but the queen kept coming back and rebuilding.  We had to kill her in the end.  Not nice but at least we could have a BBQ in peace (well almost!) during the summer.

Oh bugger, I'll have to return tomorrow to hunt down the wasp.
How long will it take the wasp to build a new nest?, also will it choose the same place?, or do Ihave to search the entire camper inside and out?.

Our wasp came back to exactly the same place in the shed.  So she shouldn't be that difficult to track down.

We sat and watched a wasp building one lazy afternoon many years ago.  Over a two hour period it went from a spec to ball about the size of golf ball.  So get back there soon.

Job done, Wasp is no more, it is deceased, gone, pop it's cloggs.....it is an ex-wasp.

However, I did then check the camper over and realise that I needed two new tyres (the old ones had cracks/splits in the walls) and when packing the canvas down, I pulled some off at the stitching!, so that'll need repairing.

Bloody Wasps!.

It was a mercy killing. Tbh, when I opened up the camper, she was still there and looked to be in a bit of a bad way. It was quick and I am sure painless, The MCN is a rather hefty paper.
