Good Afternoon and very Merry Christmas to you all.
I am new to this forum so please go easy on me.
We have just purchased a 2004 Conway Crusader over the Christmas period and have started cleaning it all up inside and out. I am looking at painting the inside and have been reading loads of other interesting conversations on this forum - Thanks all so far.
Our Crusader has the sliding beds and whilst cleaning everything up realised that the ply board on the underside of the beds are not protected from the elements.... My question being, has anyone used an exterior clear varnish to the exposing wood to try and waterproof it or is there a reason why this is not done.
Also, is there any tips anyone would suggest whilst i am pulling this apart to refurbish it?
Any LED upgrades etc.
Sorry for the huge post but one more question for the minute.....
I have just purchased a new leisure battery for it fully charged yet i have struggled to get anything inside the camper to work, any ideas??
We had a 2002 model a few years ago and there's no need to treat the ply under the beds.
We made the following changes to ours:
* Motor mover
* Added a strip light to the left of the loo door (as you look at it) by splicing into the wires behind the folding part of the loo compartment
* Replaced the pins that the centre frame arm pivoted on with coachbolts and nyloc nuts as the press-fit caps on ours kept popping off
* Built a larger table that slid over the pop-up flap table to make a more useful dining area
* Rewired the road lights and fitted a 13 pin plug after one of the original wires shorted on the metal frame.
I can't really recall what the electrics were like in ours. Chances are there's a master switch and individual fuses inside that cut the power to the individual devices.
Don't know if you've seen this website, you could get some could info from them.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
We painted the ply (top and bottom) with yacht varnish ... worked brilliantly and looked so much better! Whether it was strictly better for the wood, or not, I have no idea ... but it was certainly a perfect 'damp defender'.
We also dispensed with the cupboard that folds down and fills the centre aisle for travelling ... it opened up a huge space for storage when on the move ... mosaic tiled the plinth the cupboard sat on, making a useful extra surface.
Sorry for the delay in replying, It has been a little busier than i thought!
Thank you for the feedback, really appreciated. I have since had the camper up and open to try and clean it up and do away with the stale smell!!!
I am upgrading the spot lamps to LED but now having an issue that when using a seperate switch to the two LED's on the condiment unit, they LED's light up dim. Yet if i connect then directly to the camper wiring.... They are nice and bright! Do you think it might be the switch?
