Just bought a 2003 Pullman fc in reasonable nick, actually excellent value for the price, although the canvas needs patching in places. Have tried clear patch tape but it doesn’t stay down so wondered if anyone can recommend a suitable patch? Also the two opposite corner steadies require an alternative spanner - not a socket. Is this common or have two steadies been replaced at some time maybe? Any ideas?

Hi when we had to repair our Conway fc I purchased some bit of canvas of ebay to sew on to the damaged area as for the corner steadies that's a new one on me has someone not put them on the wrong way around?? could you post a photo? cheers Bruce

Didn’t think of that, sewing on a piece of canvas, but very logical,thanks. As to the steadies I can’t get a photo at the moment, fc is in storage. We’ve had it out to clean it and attempt a waterproofing and I have to replace the tow electric socket which has suffered with age so when I go next I’ll take some pics. Thanks for replying. Vern

Bruce,
Two steadies take the standard socket spanner so the actual steady is a “male” bolt. The other two (opposite corners) are receptacle ends so would require a “male” type spanner to insert. Does that make sense, I can’t describe it any better except to refer to male and female fixings. I suppose we will need two separate spanner’s!!

Frigletts are you sure the two that need the male spanner are not designed to be locked with a locking barrel that is inserted, I had them on my pennine pullman and you needed a T looking implement, have a look and see if there is a little star/ allan type screw if so undo it and there should be a nut like the other 2

That may well be the answer I’ll have a good look when I next go over to it. Honestly, I haven’t got right down to have a really close look because it hurts going that low! I shall have to go down on hands and knees. Last time I looked the camper beds were folded out so I had a job looking closely under the bed. Not enough exercise during lockdown!

When you say clear tape, do you mean tenacious ape? We have found that very good in the past.

Hi JP,
Did you use Tenacious Tape on canvas or did you use it on nylon, only the clear tape we used seemed extremely sticky, however it easily peeled off of the canvas?
I have thought about our method and wondered if we stuck it on the wrong surface because we put it on the inside (after a good waterproofing and letting it dry) and then used the tape on the underside (inside) surface. This was so we could see the holes where the light was visible through. Should it have gone on the outside?
We may have another go tomorrow when I replace the tow electrical socket.

we did try the Tenacious tape and it was a very good short term fix but the tape went very brittle after time but if you have got tears in the canvas I would sew them up before put the the tape on to stop the tear from running the the canvas gets tight you can get canvas tread

We put the Tenacious tape both sides of the canvas. It’s still there 7/8 years later. We covered small holes. As you have tears, it maight be better to sew a patch. Good luck.
