I'm looking into buying a Camplet Passion trailer tent. I've had folding campers and I've had tents but both have there draw backs especially when touring and one night layovers.
I've came across the Camplet range at Camperlands and think one of these might be a good compromise.
Any advice please, good points and bad especially around putting up/ down and using the kitchen when travelling (if that's possible)
We used to have a CombiCamp which is another ‘quick up’ trailer tent. The main cabin can be up in 30 seconds which is great for stopovers and 1 nighters but if you are staying for longer, there are a host of awnings and annexes etc that you can add.
The Camplets are a bit different as they have the awning attached permanently but the one thing they do all have in common is that they are a nightmare to take down in the rain! We absolutely loved our CombiCamp and if we only needed a unit for our 4 week French holiday each year then I would never have got rid of it but we had too many wet pack ups in the UK where we had to fold up the unit soaking wet and then try to get it up enough at home to dry out. This became a real stress for me and I was watching the weather forecast for days leading up to our packing up day and worrying about getting the unit folded away dry (and it has to be absolutely bone dry to prevent mold). In the end we sold it and bought a caravan which is so much more practical for breaks in the UK, however, I really miss the CombiCamp when we are in France.
A good lightweight trailer which was easy to erect, providing you remembered to push out the kitchen support pole. This defect was so common that they even had a special replacement parts kit for it.
The kitchen was accessible, en route, but not terribly useful.
The beds needed slatting to avoid condensation build up under the mattress.
Many of these points may well have been remedied in the last 15 years!
Overall a good fun and simple unit, but suffering the problems of all canvas tents - putting away when wet
P.S we moved onto a Holtkamper because we ae posh!
Have a look at the Dandy or Riva campers/caravans. PVC instead of canvas so is much warmer in winter, cool in summer and can be put away wet with no need to dry out until you use it next time.
