Have a new to us 1999 Cruiser and on taking it for it's first trip have discovered that the fridge will not work on 240v or 12v. It runs fine on gas but it's greedy and I'd rather have it on the mains that I'm already paying for. Scampi suggested to us that there may be a plug under the lower vent but I've had a look and there isn't one - it appears to be wired straight through to the junction box. Anyone out there know of any switches lurking we may have missed. If dry enough OH will get the avo out tonight and we'll test to see if power is getting through. Everything else works a treat. Other question is if it runs on gas Ok does that mean the fridge itself is OK and it's probably the power supply not the fridge unit itself?

I'd go to the Conway owners forums but it won't let me register no matter what I do!

Thanks,

Lazydaisy.

We have 2000 cruiser and have on occasions knocked the switches OFF on the electric box in the locker which suddently means something doesn't work - check the switches are all in the ON position.

The other problem we have had is that sometimes we don't get the hookup lead pushed far enough into the connection on the unit, but in that case none of the electrics work, not just the fridge.  Only other switch I know of is the one on the fridge itself.

Hi msears,

Thanks for that. Do you have any paperwork on the little info dial on the right of the door as you go in next to the socket. It's not mentioned in our paperwork at all. Seems to show full power on all systems all the time. Any info gratefully received!

We have tried all switches in all sorts of combinations for the fridge and are about to go and check the electric flow now. Do you know if the fridge works on gas if that means it's OK for elctricity or are there two separate systems?

Thanks

Lazydaisy.

Hello Lazydaisy

I don't think you can asume that if it works on gas it will work on electric.

hi lazydaisy we recently purchased a pennine sterling first unit with a built in fridge, we plugged it in and couldnt hear anything so presumed that it wasnt working tried all switches etc but still didnt think it was working. I always keep a fridge thermometer in camper so put that in ice box and after about 30 minutes looked at it to find the temp was coming down so it was working after all. I dont know if this is similar to your problem if it is perhaps you could get one of them and put it in ice box/fridge and leave it to see if it is working.

p.s also if you stand outside unit near vent for fridge you will find if its working you will feel the heat coming out..

good luck

Unfortunately it appears so far that 12v and 240 don't work. No heat from vent, no cooling inside. Put it onto 12v tonight and it was pulling power. Had left it on 240 for 24 hours prior to trip away thinking it was working only to find it hadn't! Still working on it. Would be grateful for any more ideas.

Didn't think working on gas meant electric would be OK - just wishful thinking!

Thanks

Lazydaisy.

Those fridges will only work on 12v when attached to the car with the engine running and even then they're pretty poor. They will not run off the internal battery whatever the position of the switches.

As others have said, they take a long time to get going on 240v but not 24hrs! If you've got an AVO and can get to the right place to check, that's the next thing to do really. Mine has had 240v added so the fridge just plugs into a standard 3 pin socket and I haven't got the gadget inside the door. However, if other 240v stuff is working you must have the switch there in the right position.

Regarding your problem with the CoC forum, I know some people had problems with their antivirus settings preventing them registering but thought that had been fixed. If you send an email to webmaster at conwayowners.org.uk outlining the problem and giving your details, I'm sure the admin, Ian, will help.

Yippee!! We seem at last to have a working fridge! Connected it up to the mains after the 12v experiment hadn't worked and low and behold, after 2 hours the vent was warm and the temp in the fridge had dropped to 19F from 66F (ice box!). We had not changed any switches other than those on the fridge front. The neighbours must think we are nuts as the unit was up and down like a thing possessed last night - kept trying to rain so we had to shut it up and reopen everytime we wanted to check the fridge!

Many thanks to all who offered help and advice - lets hope it still feels like working for next week's trip out when we have guests we'd like to impress with it's ice making skills!

As regards panel on right of door - not sure whether book mentions it or not (book in unit on storage site so can't check I'm afraid). Don't think there was much about it. We've never really worked out why we would need to - we found a setting that worked for us and left it that way! Unfortunately I can't tell you what setting we have, but everything works on site and we can have the fridge on 12v when towing - what more do we want.

Mind you we don't have a battery, always used EHU, maybe if we did we would find out what the panel does for us!!!

The panel on the side showed full power on site on 240v but as you say seemed to make little difference as to how the switch was set and there is no mention of it in the handbook. How level is level for the sake of the fridge? We use a spirit level and it's been as close as poss each time.

we use spirit level and do our best but it isn't always 100%.  have heard that more than 3 degrees out can affect it, but don't know if that is correct - never had a problem with that
