Not sure of the answer, others may know better. I sail a little dinghy and can get dacron sail patches sticky backed from chandlers such as Trident.
Mine are white to match my sails but you might be lucky and get a different colour.
Dacron is defined as.. a synthetic polyester (polyethylene terephthalate) with tough, elastic properties, used as a textile fabric
so sounds very much like modern tent canvases.
It certainly makes a good repair on sails, I put a patch both sides. Sails get quite a bashing with flogging (flapping) in high winds and lots of water.
