Hi all, I've search the forums and there are a few posts of people removing the canvas to their camper. We have a 2005 pennine pathfinder and I want to remove the canvas and wandered if anyone had a guide to do this. I know I have to remove the screws at each end but wandered how i get the poles out, do you extend them all the way till they pop apart and then pull them through?

Yes, I removed the canvas from our Pathfinder to give it a good clean.

draped the whole thing over a tent frame on the lawn and washed it with pure liquid soap purchased from our local hardware store (don't use soap powder), then set to with the high pressure hose. let the canvas dry. It was in the summer when it was HOT.

No need to reproof the canvas, when dry put it back on the pathfinder.

You have discovered how to take the canvas off, its not hard to put back on, when the canvas is back on the poles, screw the canvas onto the bed boards, it might take some stretching with the canvas having been cleaned. Make sure the door is zipped up to keep the canvas taught.

When it was fitted back on, I cleaned the windows with proper cleaner.

The canvas looked fab, mildew spots nearly invisible. The FC was left up in the rain, let dry and then rained on again, it didn't leak at all.

With the canvas off, it was a good opportunity to give it a good check over.

Loved the FC!

regarding sandras tip of removing and then cleaning and leaving off the frame before drying, you are best to have the canvas on the frame before wetting and cleaning it down, as when it dries it will shrink slightly and run risk of ripping or you may not even be able to erect the cabin poles at all

It isn’t a job I would do in the winter because you have to get the canvas dry and it’s a lot of canvas!
John boy has already removed the canvas, options are to leave it until next year in a dry mouse proof place, take it to a professional for cleaning, or put it back on and decide what to do next year.

I took ours off because I wanted t9 high pressure hose it and didn’t want to risk water ingress into the FC, yes it was snug to get back on but I didn’t have any rips just a lot of huffing and puffing to fit the corners!!!!

Silvertop, yeah agree I’m not going to clean it till next year. The main reason for removing it was to store it in the house over the winter. Our FC has to stay on the drive so thought best to have all soft furnishings in the spare room. The canvas is all dry so can keep an eye on it and give it a clean in new year
