Hi All

We have just got our new (2016) Pennine Fiesta home and it looks to be in great shape.

However to err on the side of caution I was thinking of getting it serviced.

Is this something that should be done every year? It's just really the hubs and brakes that I would really have any concern about, even though they look fine.

Another point is the underside of the trailer. Is it worth undersealing with that black rubberised stuff you might use on older motorhomes etc.

thanks

your best off getting a mobile service guy around, and ask him to do a chassis service, how often you need to get it done really is down to how often your using the camper and where, rallies in farm fields would mean things get caked in mud so than if you just used fully serviced sites.

no dont go undersealing it, the timber needs to be able to breathe and the chassis is galvanised.

If it has never been serviced, it would probably be worthwhile for your own piece of mind.

Never undersealed our Pathfinder.

When you have a minute can you fill in your outfit and location details in your profile, as this can help others with replies. Thanks.

You probably only need to have a chassis service being it's a braked trailer but in saying that you may need a habitation service to test the gas system, fridge and water pump etc. but you are best to consult a service engineer regarding this to see what cost is involved.

Great,

thanks for the replies and yes I will update my details, :)

I have been quoted £250 incl vat for a service by a local caravan sales company. (see below) but as some suggest, I was also thinking I only really need the chassis servicing.

Also good advice on lack of need for undersealing, thanks

cheers

Sales quote of £249

An NCC Approved service at xxxx Caravans raises your caravan up on ramps enabling the technicians greater access to the wheels, chassis and brakes, all of which need to be checked and serviced at least once a year to maintain their road worthiness. Handbrake hitch, towing mechanism, corner steadies, brakes and breakaway cable are inspected on the service. One shot nuts are replaced and your old ones are given back to you to confirm this. In addition, a function test is carried out on the internal equipment such as gas cookers, fridges and heaters that all need regular safety checks. Blinds and fly screens are inspected.
The caravan's electrical installations, both mains and battery, also require regular inspection and servicing. A full damp test is carried out during the service and a report is provided on completion

If you take your unit to a workshop for servicing they will charge more to cover their overheads so opting for a mobile service engineer who does exactly the same job works out much cheaper by a 100 quid or so.

Thanks and I have now arranged for a chassis service with a mobile Engineer. Price £80 + parts so that is a significant saving.

I am glad I asked now, thanks
