Does anyone know where I can get my hands on an American Camper ? Can they be imported ? Can they be adapted to UK specifications ?

I would be grateful for any advise.

Thanks

HI there,

You will find people selling them on Ebay but be careful as a lot of them are not adapted for UK spec. There was a Welsh company(they import them new and spec is UK road legal as far as I could make out) selling one on Ebay, not sure if they have another one on at the moment and cant remember the name of the company. Er not a lot of good I know..LOL...but keep an eye on Ebay. They did have another 2 on the other day but I cant seem to track them down at the moment. Only thing we noticed when drooling over the campers was the weights....they weigh a ton and nose weights are a lot heavier than British Campers.

Good Luck

I think that the other company is called fleetwood, however as far as the uk versions i.e. conway cardinal, tardis and lasers even these are heavy for most cars, we pull ours with a discovery and you know its on the back, but the main thing  whether you are buying new or second hand is the servicing as their is very little knowledge of then in the uk including conway dealers so the main thing that you have to be aware of is the winch and lifting mechanism

as far as the weight is concerned to give you an idea our cardinal is 850kg which for its size is heavier than the majority of caravans

we tried at first to get a very old starcraft working and after two years of arguing and many phone calls to canada we gave up for the sake of our marriage!!!! but the staff over there couldnt be more helpful even ordered a new winch which arrived in two days!!!! beat that royal mail  In the uk though the opposite  very little parts exist and no one wants to help you even though the last model was only 6 years ago when they where still owned by conway

be careful of the ones that were selling new on ebay as you would need an artic to tow one as I noticed their weights, although no heavier than a pathfinder or crusader, they are not braked so would be illigal to tow for most vehicles.

try this site http://www.rvstop.co.uk/

Thanks for all the comments so far.

We have a large people carrier so I think the nose weight shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks

Thanks again everyone.

The most useful links for new suppliers are goldrv.co.uk and www.conwycampersdirect.com .

Second hand from ebay or rvsales.co.uk

Thanks again everyone
