Morning folks, we've just purchased a second hand pennine fiesta *one with the toilet option*. I've always been a very basic camper *kettle and tent only required* but with a boisterous toddler in tow and a husband who wanted more comfort we've gone for a trailer tent. Can anyone help with basics such as water, waste, gas and battery knowledge please as we are very new to this and don't want to wreck it first time around 🙈
Much thanks,
Sophie, Thomas, Matthew and woofs
dont forget some levelling ramps and blocks for under the steadies.
along with your bedding, pots and pans etc. box of toys for the toddler, also hand to have harness and reins and a dog corkscrew to attach him too when your setting things up and cant keep a close eye on what he is doing. yes i know is sounds weird but its better than him wandering off.
oh you will be needing chairs and a table too. and a cool box for when travelling as you cant pack the fridge at home.
Take a spirit level for setting up. I use one for levelling the beds and which helps with getting the 'canvas' set up properly. I have also fitted a "T" level onto the frame by the jockey wheel which makes levelling the unit a breeze. And, don't forget pads for under the feet and levelling ramps.
A leisure battery is essential if you go off-grid. I think the dimensions are: 255mm long X 210mm High X 180mm Deep, but do check. Tanya batteries (online) are good. If you go on-grid you will need a hook-up cable, Get a long one. I have two: 25m and a shorter one.
Calor no longer do their small-sized cylinders. Camping gaz 907 is an option but expensive in the UK, but good if you go continental. Flogas is another option worth looking at. Remember you'll also need the correct regulators and it would be worth checking the date on the gas hose. They should be replaced every five years. Ditto tyres - they perish over time and need changing every five years or so. A blowout on the motorway is no fun.
I would seriously consider having your unit properly serviced for peace of mind, especially if bought privately. Hope this helps someway.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
If it is like my Pullman was you will need a leisure battery connected or the 12v electrics won't work.
Basics would be water container (like a caravan water barrel) and waste container and gas cylinder.
You can pack stuff in the cupboards and the fridge whilst travelling (it will keep cool for a few hours) and there is often room to pack other stuff on the floor of the camper before you fold it.
From experience it is worth doing a final walk round before setting off to check it is hitched properly, cover fastened, steadies up, jockey wheel up, brake off and lights working - it is easy to forget doing something until it becomes automatic!
