Hi
I’ve had my 2006 crusader for a year and above the large front bed, somewhere in the middle I notice that when it rains or it gets wet it looks a little different than everywhere else, it’s only ever leaked a small amount when it’s rained heavy and never gets passed the head lining.
I’ve had it up for over a week doing the odd job in there and we have had our first bit of rain in about 10 days and it’s leaked onto the bed all be it a small patch so I think it stopped leaking. I’m assuming this is due to the canvas being so dry with the hot weather and then getting wet? At the start of the season i wet the canvas a few times and let dry etc.
My question is, what can I do in regards to cleaning the roof panel?
i assume something contaminating this section, maybe dirt or detergent from the previous owner. I don’t believe it’s been waterproofed as far as I can tell. Is it just constant rinsing with a hosepipe? I have a steamer with a brush which only uses water and no detergent but will the heat damage the canvas?
ok what is going on with your roof? its called uv, from the sun, and its faded the green dye. it happens to all of the folding campers, red ones turn into pink!
ok so for cleaning its a simple thing of clean water (hosepipe) and a nice soft brush, leave until dry and then a spray over of fabsil wont do any harm if done on a nice windless day and then left to totally dry out which will also remove the smell too
Thanks for your reply, yes it’s very faded, so
You think the best course of action is to clean with water and a clean brush and then fabsil? Read a bit about not waterproofing canvas tents but as it’s sonic damaged, it’s probably the only way to maintain water tightness?
Would you just do the area affected or the whole roof? It’s only the front bedroom pos that I’ve noticed water getting in
yes i would do the whole roof in one go, saves it getting patchy, and yes people will say dont waterproof a tent, which is fine, and doesnt need doing as a maintainance thing, but this is different as you have got a problem of leaking and its the only cure.
