The easiest way to remember is that side to side you are relying on ramps to raise one side relevant to the other.
For front to back, it’s the jockey wheel.
As others have said the “steadies” are what they say, do not try to jack it up on them.

I use a spirit level for my first check but then make final adjustments using the fridge door! Open it and if it stays put without moving then you're level. Seems to be more accurate than the spirit level.
