Auto's are fine to tow with, just make sure that it has an oil cooler thats up to towing as the fluid temperture will rise considerably, over the years I have towed caravans with auto's with no problems, so if you are only towing a folding camper you should have no problem, we tow our folding camper with a mondeo auto, hardly notice the unit on the rear of the car.

the oil cooler that fitted is for cooling under solo conditions you can  have an inline cooler fitted but just remember that even solo auto s are thirsty and this doesnt improve when towing however its great when in towns that you arent familiar with as its one less thing to have to concentrate on.

Hello, I tow a Dandy folding camper with a Volvo GT Auto Estate, no problems, it's an old car so a bit thirsty but does the job well.

Most cars that have an auto box will be capable of towing thier designed weight with the standard oilcooler.  Maybe if you were towing it's maximum weight alot then it is worth having an extra cooler fitted but you should have no problems with a trailer tent.

When towing with an auto though, you will find it better to use the box like a manual. i.e. pulling away in 1st, then up to 2nd then to 3rd. This will let you stay in the gear longer and reducing the load on both engine and box. It will also help the engine to keep cooler by not letting it "labour" as much.

It matters not whether your car is manual or auto provided the engine has sufficient power and torque to do the job.

Folding campers and trailer tents are a third to half the weight  and less than half the height of caravans so they produce a fraction of the drag. Whilst towing you are limited to 60 mph so the car is probably needing less power than when traveling at 80 solo, so the stress is probably reduced. We note when towing our folding camper with a 2 litre auto diesel, the average fuel consumption is still about 40 mpg and the temperature never varies.
