Hi Bernie, thats what I got the annex for so that I can do without the awning, with the folders the kitchen is in the cabin anyway so thats ok I'll use the annex as an awning for chairs etc
ps I agree with you caz - you have to be careful winding it up that it goes up even don't you? And with the extra on one side it sounds risky
The pole tensioner you're talking about is a good idea, but when we were considering one we were warned they can be too successful and break the poles! So we decided against it.
The sell them in Towsure, Awning Accessories, then about half way down the page, they're £14.95.
this is the official way it states exactly this in the manual, and as far as the extra weight on the roof, the cables are rated for about 5 ton i think I have seen people with permanently attached roof boxes on it ( bugger if you forget to empty before the roof goes up) a bloke at trentfield farm this weekend had a coleman - same as ours and he had an aircon on the roof so it really isnt a problem butr you just throw the canvas on the roof then wind up - a length of rope tied to the awnng is handy here, sort out the usual stuff and then get the poles out and attach them when everything else is done using the rope pull the canvas over the frame and then tension the poles and pegout voila!!!!!
Yes, it states in the instructions that the canvas should be attached & thrown on to the roof before winding the roof up, but in your previous post you implied that the poles could also be attached & tensioned before winding it up.
This is not shown in the instructions I have and it would mean the canvas being in position at the side, not on the roof, & the 2 winding mechanisms on that side would be taking considerably more weight than the 2 on the other side as they would be bearing the weight of the poles and the canvas.
Now you are saying to attach the poles after the roof is raised, which seems to contradict what you said before.
And I'm all confused

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Sorry - just to interupt a minute - I'd just like to say that my stepstool was a huge success this weekend. Not that I got to stand on it due to help with awning (thanks Neil) but for cards & a drinks stand it was perfect!!! In fact if you look at the picture gallery for trentfield you can see it in use!!!
Its this one on page 3 - couldn't believe neil drinking tea!! Had to put that right! If you big it up on the gallery you can see it well with a nice background of my combi!
My wife can put our awning up single handed.... but you want to hear the language!!!, i send the kids to the play area and make myself busy with the services if we're not putting it up together, the saving grace on the pennine being that it's so light with the sides unzipped whereas the conway had a 3 metre awning in one piece, you wondered if it was going to attack you sometimes!!
Thanks bit far for a day trip then!!!! It looks absolutely georgous. Was it cold?
lol yes - very remote - the cottage we stayed in had no leccy. It was a very hot couple of weeks (summer 03) & the pool was soooooo refreshing -we stayed there all day - one of the best!
