Hi...I've just bought  a 1983 Pennine Pullman and have  just read the topic about Thompsons water seal which is handy as I was about to buy some Fabsil....and I need to know if I should clean the canvas before I waterproof it?

am complete novice so this is probably a very silly question.....do you put up all the poles then fix the buttons to the trailer or the other way round? Have put it up on the drive by doing the buttons first, then the poles but she looks a little saggy!!

Thanks, any advice gratefully recieved!

Linda

We open the trailer up push the poles up to button two and then velcrose our canvas to the body as the canvas gets older we expect to push the poles up further to take up the slack. Do you have buttons not velcrose? We tried pushing the poles up another notch after velcrosing but it didn't work. If you intend to clean the canvas you need to do it first but unless desperate leave well alone. Do not use detergent use only pure soap if you do decide to clean it. Our skirts are plastised and quite scrubbable. New trailer covers can be bought from pennine but you could just put a tarpulin over the existing one. Store it nose up so condense etc runs out the back. That could be what has caused mark on the bed boards.

Thanks both, I think I will leave the camper well alone and just reproof it as is, the skirts got cleaned yesterday but didn't look a lot better to be honest, think I will make some new ones at the end of the season as they are quite light weight canvas I should be to do it. Will enquire how much new covers are from Pennine but was more concerned how it would stand up to heavy rain when travelling ( not that there will be any rain obviously!!).

Was hoping to go the Lake District on the 20th , but may put it back till the 27th as there's rather a lot of stuff I need to get.....battery, gas, water bottles etc.....was worried I'd taken on more than I can chew but hey ho it'll sort itself out!!

Thanks again and enjoy your first trip Shelley!

Linda
