We have recently aquired a Dandy and will be using it a lot over summer.
When you reverse the brakes lock on. Is there a way to stop this when reversing to site the trailer? My Dad thinks there may have been a locking plate supplied with them at one time.
depending on how old it is there will either be automatic reverse or on the tow hitch there will be a small lever some where arond the draw bar that moves forward and backwards this needs to be moved to engage overun and the you will be able to reverse, if its a more recent model then it might be that the brakes need checking as they arent releeasing to go backwards, and unless you are very compitent then i would suggest a caravan fitter do this.
If it's an old one then you have to lift a lever on the hitch to allow the brakes to "over run" and then you should be able to reverse. Otherwise the hitch movement is limited. The lever is at the hitch head itself.
Many thanks, I'll have a good look when I get home. I haven't seen a lever. I think by looking at the model it may be from the eighties. It's a five berth in cream and brown.
There's a little semi-circular "clip" that you fasten over when you want to reverse and this prevents the hitch being compressed so the Dandy's brakes don't come on. When you want to go fowards again, take it off.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Hi, I have a Dandy, the clip on mine is red, and like Caz says you just flip it over when you want to reverse. As I can't reverse yet without going round in circles I unhitch and move the unit myself, much easier! on a journey I just make sure I don't get lost and don't have to reverse!!
I used the trailer at the weekend and it was great, apart from the weather. I'll look into making a clip. I now need a left back leg as the one on there is a bit worn and rusted up.
When I got our Dandy both back leg screws were locked. The previous owner just put piles of wooden blocks under them. Gave them a good spray with WD40 and left it for a week - loosened off a treat then. Remove and clean with a wire brush, then coat with Copper based grease. Cheap repair.
Carry an adjustable spanner - we had the handle break off our leg secures so have learnt our lesson.
An adjustable spanner comes in hand for all sorts of emergencies on site - banging in pegs on kids tents, sorting out bent legs on seats, lost skateboard tools (two teenagers throwing a tantrum when kingpins go is not a pretty sight on site. Regular girl guide I am.
