Hi, everyone. I've taken the plunge and booked ( and paid) to pitch my Conway Royale Trailer Tent at a site we used at half term, for the whole 6 weeks of school hols. The sites only 40 mins from home, with the idea that we will go stay if weather good, and return home for a day or two here and there if it's a typical British summer! Trouble is, I'm now worried about security of trailer tent and belongings when we go home.Obviously I won't leave valuable items, but do I need to worry? Has anyone bad experiences? I've had to assure my 8 year old daughter that I'm going to padlock the tent!!! impossible I know but it stopped her worrying, only to set me thinking-......perhaps it's better that I don't..... (think that is) - Any advice out there please

What is the site like, ie - is there a barrier and pass system to get on and off the site? And is it used? As long as you take all the vauables out of the tent what is the worst some one could do? If they were persitant enough to take the two hours it takes to pack up a trailer tent and take it away without someone noticing then they probably deserve it. I know that is what we always think. It always amazes me how much respect people on camp sites have for each others property and if the camp site is secure there should only be other campers there any way.
Thks rabble u are making feel easier about it already. It is a very large site, there is a pass system, but the site is very exposed and the pass system easy to abuse. However, you're right what is the very worst that can happen. I should have more faith in the human race. Other campers are generally a great bunch of people who look out for each other! well lets hope so.

I have never had a problem when camping, and really most tents are left alone, to improve your security I would get to know those camping around you, and more importantly tell the site owners..... you can buy battery operated alarms etc and if you use the ones with the ring pull (usually personal alarms) you can rig your own trip wire so that it sets the alarm off!
I would think of it this way, going away from the tent for a couple of days is probably no different to leaving it for the day when you go out and about. As for night time, if the tent is closed up, anybody passing would just think you are in the tent asleep. As a thought, if you have electric hook up, you could always take an electric light source with you and put it on a timer, that way people will see a light going on and off, this is what we do at home when we go on holiday, argos do digital timers for just a few quid. I do think the idea of pitching up somewhere for the school hols is a good idea, I could be tempted to do the same after we come back from France.
