I want to attach something to the outside of my FC (pennine pathfinder) which requires using screws to attach it. Any advice on type and length of screw to use e.g. self tapping etc, and whether anly sealant would be required. Don't want to blunder into this and make a mess of the FC.
For those interested, I want to use a 2m length of 20mm round plastic ducting to hold a TV aerial. The pole will protude above the FC and the aerial will be clamped on top of it. The pole will slide into two 'o' rings which I will attach to the side of the FC, with one about 30cm directly above the other. Therefore when assembling it is simply a matter of clamping the aerial to the ducting and sliding the ducting into the two '0' rings. I can then turn the ducting around to get the best reception. The fit with the 'o' rings is tight enough to ensure the pole does not slide down to the ground, hence a 2m length should be adequate. (If this is not the case due to weight of the aerial I will block up the bottom of the bottom 'o' ring to make sure the pole does not slide thru). When not in use the 2m length will easily fit back inside the camper. Total cost about £6.00.
i would play safe and put some sealant around it before and after screwing it in but i hope you are doing this on the offside of the trailer, otherwise you may have problems getting your awning on, i know its obvious but its the sort of thing my hubby would do and then oooooopps!
Is the 20mm plastic ducting you are talking about plastic conduit ? Either way plastic gets brittle when it has been exposed to the elements and cracks, snaps.
Not so with Bartol external water pipe, made to last years out in the elements. Comes in various sizes, from 9mm up to 100mm used for water pipe, drain, rainwater etc.

Use sealant and stainless screws would be my advice. One word of warning, do not under estimate the load a strong wind tugging at the ariel when in place. I would hate to see it damaged due to fixings being pulled out.

Thanks for the replies so far. Regards connecting to the 'A' frame - this is not possible as Mexman states because the beds once extended fold out past the hitch. I also have a connection that has suckers but it is useless, the sides of our Pathfinder have a dimpled finish on them rather than a smooth finish of later models, hence the suckers do not stick - but even on the smooth front/rear of the camper they don't work that great. I'd imagine a stiff breeze and the thing would be blown off.
