hi all , i am interasted in buying a  secondhand tt and need lots of advice.

1, is there any brands of tt that i should steer clear of,? 2, what should i look out for when examing a tt? 3,do most campsites let tts on ? 4. is a tt better better to put up in the wind than a tent and do they take the bad weather better than a tent? 5, i want to use my tt as much as possable, does it matter if my tt is up for long periods in all weathers?6, what are the bad points about a tt ( if any)?.

i know ive asked a lot of questions but i want to know what im letting myself in for before i go ahead and take the plunge.

if you can add any more helpful do and donts to this please tell me. thanks for your help mac.

Hi BigMac or can I call you Big?

I'm no expert on TTs but I've had tents and folders. Common sense tells me to check the canvas for any mould, rips and tears etc. Check the poles for any bent bits and splits. Check the body for any damage, the running gear for things like bearings and shocks (if fitted). Indicators, stop lights side lights and brakes for good order.

make sure you see it up!..    I suppose TTs need a longer runway in the wind, but if you choose the right one you could put the "cabin" up first and the awning up when the wind drops! The weather should pose no problem if you are reasonably safety conscious and do a good job of pegging out.

The only bad points are that you have to go back to work every now and again!

Don't know anything about makes you should stay away from. You may have guessed from any of my previous replies on this forum, i like Conway's. I have had two before moving up to Folder's, and they have never let me down!

I don't know of any site's that won't let you on.

TT's are quicker to put up in the wind, the more difficult bit is an attached awning in the wind, also when errected they are more stable, as they are heavier.

Like all TT's/Tents, make sure it is dry before packing up, if you have to pack up in the rain, dry as soon as you get home.

Don't know about long period's, only used to have mine up for 2 week's holiday duration at the most.

Only bad point i can think of, is if when you put your awning on, you have a lot of pegging to do!

HAVE FUN

WOODWORM!
