This may seem a daft question.... and may not really matter, but..

The plastic "weather" flap at the bottom of the awning - is the canvas of the awning mean to go directly to the ground with the flap fully tucked under the groundsheet  or should there be a "gap" before the canvas of the awning meets the ground (with half the weather flap tucked under groundsheet) I hope this makes sense. 

I took a look at others and some seem to go to the ground and others don't - does it depend on the make of awning/tent?

Thanks Jan - so that's what they're called "mud walls"

A similar thread has been started on Tent talk from all the comments I think ours would tuck under as the rubbers are on the outside and there are no holse on the mud walls.

So I guess it would be sensible to leave some of the mud wall showing so that water can drip off the canvas and not have the canvas come in contact with the mud!

I've just noticed you have a Pennine Pathfinder - I wonder if you can throw some ideas on the followng.  Our awning zip seems far too long to attach the section under the beds on the left handside (looking onto the awaning). 

We've tried different ways of attaching it but we seem to have an excess of around 3 inches of zip on one side (of the zip) possibly more.  In the end we've zipped it and tucke dthe end of the awning onto the strut.

Any ideas - it seems as though the zip they've used is too long.
