Can anyone tell me the difference between a swan neck towbar and an ordinary one - if there is any?? We have swapped my car and need to get one fitted and the cheapest quote was for one of these but the dosey person couldn't answer my question???
cheers m'dears
We use to have a swan neck tow bar. We preffer the ordinary one. We found the swan neck one can get clipped more easily, as it sticks out further. But they are quite ok, depends what you want really.
We have a swan neck and it does seem to stick out a long way. I am always getting grease on my clothes! I buried it in the grass bank outside the office when parking one day too. Would have preferred the other type but bought the car with it already fitted. I don't know any of the advantages/disadvantages.
I have a swan neck (not me personally)!! I brought it for looks really it's not so obvious, it was dearer than the ordinary one for my car. They do stick out a little further but not excessive.
swan necks can also somtimes be of a lesser weight rating, due to the design they cant cope with 3 tonnes!!! which is why some larger cars cant be fitted with them,
you lot who keep getting greased up walking pass your towballs, have`nt you heard of a cap yes the are cheap and sit there nice and shiny keeping the grease where it`s suppose to be, on the ball..
I would personaly use a normal type tow bar compared to the swan neck for the reason that most bike carriers that fit to the tow bar cannot be fitted to the swan neck type. and for the grease use a cover they come in all shapes and sizes
