I am a new lady owner of a Conway cruiser 1991 and am interested in 12v electrics as they are a stand by.  My car doesnt have a 12s socket just the normal one 12N.  However there is a 12s plug ready to plug in on the A frame and on investigation under seating there are Battery wires with crocodile clips ready for a Leisure battery.  The previous owner when towing used to charge their battery and fridge was kept on during transit.  Am I to assume that the Conway already has a Split charge relay ?  Maybe all I need is a 12s socket for the towbar

Any help would be appreciated.

I could well be shot down but, My understanding is that the relay is installed in the car with the wire supplying the charge for the caravan/trailer battery, connected to the blue wire or #2 connection of your towbar soccket (that would have supplied your trailer foglights)then from your 12s plug, the blue wire would connect to the leisure battery so as to charge it. I will also be interested in replies by others in case i'm wrong as, this is on my list of 'things to do'!

Hi There

A Couple of pieces of info to corroborate Adria_B

The 12S socket is to provide power to the trailer / caravan and is controlled by the split charge relay which is fitted within the towing vehicle.

Some info plagiarised straight from the internet gives a description, and from a different site the wiring connections.

I have wired my trailer using this info and all works well, although I haven't taken the last step of charging the battery - Yet !

Good Luck

Maurice

VRF04 Twin Fridge/Charger Kit
This split charge relay charges an auxiliary battery and supplies power to the fridge whilst the car engine running. Connected to the 12S socket for charging the caravan battery and running fridge whilst touring.  http://www.trailerpartswarehouse.co.uk/towbar_electrics/towbar_relays.html
