Hi everyone,

My hubby and I have decided to become campers, so I rushed out this morning to buy a new Tent from Argos hoping to go camping this bank holiday weekend.  Unfortunatly we cant seem to get in anywhere.  The sites are either full or not answering the phone.  Does anybody know a good place to try where I might have a chance?  Problem is we have already told the kids and they are really looking forward to it!!!  We are looking to stay around Manchester area - North Wales, Lancashire etc.

Hope you can help keep my kids smiling

Hello There Mrs Denny

I can think of a couple of sites that you could try:

Gibralter Farm at Silverdale Nr Carnforth, Lancashire; Farm site, by the beach, very rural, 1 mile walk to shop, pub, restaurant, very rough and ready site, limited facilities, but you can get away from it all.

Riverside Leisure Park, Banks, Southport: Family room, Adults Bar, Night Club, Chip Shop, Site Shop, quite large site, 3 miles from southport with funfair, shops, beach etc.Large site, can be noisy depends what sort of people you are alongside, good facilities on site.

have a look on the campsite search for their contact numbers and more info.

Best of luck

Shirley

Fortunately, or unfortunately whichever way you want to look at it, camping has become very popular over recent years. The sites are better maintained and many have very modern facilities including electric, excellent toilet/shower blocks, designated play areas and dog walks.

Because of this popularity many of them get booked weeks and sometimes months in advance. You may still be able to find somewhere at very short notice but, as you have discovered, the sites that have gained a good reputation will have been fully booked for some time.

Mrs Denny, you'll just have to persevere and I hope you can find somewhere - if only for the kids sake and your sanity!

If you can't get on a site - don't disappoint the kids, what about the back yard. Mine had lots of fun just sleeping out there .

If its their first time they might find the reassurance that they can dash inside to bed if the weather takes a turn for the worst or 'night noises' worry them too much until they get used to it.

There's nothing worse than a kiddie who needs to get used to the 'night nosies' before his first big adventure.
