Well I have taken the leap and pick up my Sunseeker Deluxe next weekend (after I get my towbar fitted). Quick question on waterproofing - as I am buying a TT that is 12 months old, will it need waterproofing yet? is this something you do every year or not?

Although it feels that I have spent the last 24 hours reading lots of posts on this site, any other suggestions / advice that you would give to a new owner greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Have you got somewhere you can put it up at home? If you do, then put it up, give it a good drenching from a hose (not directly) and see whether it leaks.

We had a 1989 Conway and I don't think it had ever been re-proofed. It didn't leak at all.

we have had all manner and brands of tents over 35 years camping - I 've only ever had to proof 1 of them but that was a blacks good companions cotton tent from 1976 . we've used different cabanon canvas tents some for 5 years in a row and never proofed them- and we used our trio trinidad for 7 years in a row without any problem. Have had to add seam sealant at key points in roof corners and around window seams to various tents but thats all.

just take some seam sealant on your first trip - we did that with our combi camp after a little leak in the top corner - first trip was to south of france - I was woken in the night to a soft chomping sound and went out to find an army of ants hoovering up the excess seam sealant and carrying it off down the tentpole back to base. They made a great job of cleaning it up - and we never had a leak at that seam since!
