Hi       this is my first chat with you, enjoyed reading the messages so thought it would be good to join.

I'm trying to convince my husband that the combi camp trailer tent would be a good model to buy [we owned one about 25 years ago] our teenage son uses a wheelchair so we need something that would be easy for him to get in and out of. So if theres anyone who owns a trailer tent , fold down caravan or touring van that they have experience of someone in a wheelchair using,I would be grateful for their input. If there is a more suitable model we would consider it.

We are hoping ultimatly to buy a static caravan on a small friendly site that is wheelchair, dog and fishermen friendly,so if anyone knows of such a site I would be very interested. It needs to be within 2 hours drive of  Leeds, Yorks too!

many thanks Janet

Hi Janet, I have a Combi-camp, I bought it because my daughter uses a wheelchair.

I reinforce the floor, with a piece of 3 ply, to take the weight of the chair, 3 people and a portable hoist. We love the Combi and upgraded from a caravan because we couldn't get through the door.

Hi, we have an old conway royale, a 8 year old able bodied daughter and a 12 year old wheelchair bound son with severe cerebral palsy. We have just taken our TT down after pitching it for 6 weeks on a site 45 mins drive from home in Essex.  We found it too difficult to get our son up into the trailer bedrooms, so we purchased an awning inner tent and he slept at ground level. It worked well for us,although it does mean u have less living space.  My husband needed alot of convincing to try camping. He still hates putting the trailer tent up and taking it down, but agreed that the actual camping has been great for us all.

Thanks Gill

good idea to have a unit set up for all the school holidays, like a second home!

Not keen to follow the idea of using only the awning for my son, its got to be a unit he can access fully, and he is 20 so he uses an adult chair. He is able to transfer independantly from chair to bed with just a bit of support, but the bed would need to be at chair height, not too low,so far the combi appears to be the best option,I do appreciate you taking time to reply.

Janet
