I don't like the cycle carriers which fasten to the back of your car and we already have a roof box on top.
How to carry the kids bikes when towing the TT?
I bought two roof mountable carriers fom Halfords and mounted them to the A frame of the trailer. There are a couple of photos on my profile page.
We've just come back from holiday and the bikes travelled about 500 miles - no problem. Reversing is also OK. I can get the trailer at right angles to the car if I try hard enough!!
I think I'd have trouble with that as I have a storage box onthe front of the trailerI have a carrier on the tow bar, and a roof box tows okay and still struggle for space.
Ive got a Trigano chantilly tt and we've got a box on the front, I was thinking of getting the cycle carrier that goes on the top of the trailer for next summer, has anybody got one of them and how do you get on with it, also what do you do with it when you get to site, iv'e got a roof box so carn't get one of those, and when I went on my manouvering course they said you can have problems reversing with the tow bar ones, so how do you get on with yours clbewi?
We have a big box on our tt's A frame and a roof box on the car so we strap the bikes onto the top of the tt using a mixture of rope (lots of) and bungees (lots of). Have travelled many miles without them moving a fraction. Unlike the chap who drove past me as he entered the camp site last month. As he past me his cycle carrier and 3 bikes came off. Fortunatley it all missed me and the cycles were OK. But just shows how easily the rack can come off as he was only going about 5 miles an hour. Thank God it didn't happen on the motorway. Hubby had always sworn that he would never buy that type of carrier (the kind that straps onto the tailgate) and I now know why! The best (or worst) bit about it is that none of the people in the car had any idea that it had happened and drove to their pitch, got out of their car to set up and then wondered what had happened to their bikes. I was able to tell them!!!!

No probs with this type of cycle carrier it just clicks on put your bikes on and you are away. They are a fraction of the cost of the racks that go on your tt plus its a lot more hassle, and absolutely no problems reversing whatsoever hope this helps.
Not that relevant but I got all excited when I saw the TT post and rushed to tell the wife of a person towing with an AUDI TT........I'd love one of those but with kids and dogs and 26ft of caravan its not going to happen.
I now realise TT = Trailer Tent...doh...

Got a Cabanon TT, bought the bike rack fitting off a chap on ebay £100 (new price is 190), so considered it a bargain. Went to South France this year and had no problem. Previously used the fitting that sits on the towbar, but last year bought one of the massive, and I mean massive, Cabanon front box that sits on the A frame and found that I couldn't turn one of the smallest corners without crunching the bikes. Bike rack is a brilliant idea. Brackets are loosened at the side, take the top bit off and store under the bedroom comparment complete. Takes just a couple of minutes to mount/remove.....Simon
Thanks for the reply, Iv'e got a large box on mine and I want to put 3 or 4 adult bikes on, I was wondering if there would be a probem, I think I will have a really good look over the winter at the different ones, taking in what everyones said and make my mind up then, but edging back towards the trailer one now I know it'll fit under the bedroom of the trailer on site.
we've got a Raclet Sprinter with front box so a car mounted bike rack isn't really viable for more than 2 bikes - there are 4 of us! So we bought the "roof"bars for our trailer tent and so now we have a roof box and two to three bikes mounted next to thaton top of the trailer. Add a roof mounted roof box (where else?) to the car , 2 large dogs to the boot and we're off!
