you have all seen it on tv, but it really is brilliant for camping so easy to use, clean, quick, and no mess, we went to finchale priory last week, 23 aug 2005, in durham, and for the first time used it there, what a differance, brill, i have never stopped talking about it since we got back in fact i use it all the time, makes toast, cooks veg, just about everything, makes a mean bacon sandwich, i would say the best thing i take away, but that would be a heater. If anyone wants a great place to visit long walks, fishing, peace and quiet, places to visit, newcastle, chester le street, beamish, and of course durham, my good friend ann runs the site and has improved it 100%, we went in my conway clipper 1994, which I love to bits, dont u just love camping i have made some great friends, mind you have given up on sites with club houses, sick of the noise late at night, especially with little ones, it makes working full time worth it, regards all bigbird

blimey did you take a breath there bigbird?!

We've just spent a week up Durham way.  Darlington actually, but travelled to Holy Island and along the coast there.  Then travelled around the Yorkshire Dales.  It is wonderful isn't it.  Still have not got round to doing Beamish though.   Glad to see you had a good time too.

Mind you are already a north easterner so I'm not telling you anything you don't already know I guess.

my mam and dad had a static on this site 12 years ago, and i bought one 5 years ago, so i have lived a great life there, the car boots at batleys on sun morning were great, we had to leave in 2001 as ann was redeveloping the site, and were very sad to leave. My father had a heart attack and unfortunately died on the site, in oct 2000, which still haunts me to this day, but he loved it down there and if anything, going there brings me closer to him, just remembering all the happy times we spent together, a tragic event which changed my life forever, sorry to be so morbid, but sh*t happens in life and you deal with it the best you can. I have good friends down there who live on the site, like when you forget your gas bottles, they cook dinner for you, or you decide to stay for extra nights, they will do washing, the last of the top field has to leave on 1st september 2005, and to see it looking so bare upsets me, but from friends lost you meet new ones.I had intended to go to scarborough, the flower of may, we have been there before, the weekend england won the football, but work forced me to cancel and it took me 3 days to catch up on my house work, and its only a small house!, and what a week it was thunder and lighting, then very hot, every one at work thought I had been abroad, I even managed to melt the trip switch, with my 3 heaters kettle and telly, not recommended, Im happy to say a replacement was quickly acquired, sorry babling on again, but you know when your still on a high from your holls, thanks for all ur replies, check out my piccies taken in june this year, note the thick jumpers, what summer!!

Hi bigbird, looked at your pics, finchale still the same.  sometimes we go there just to have a look, as really it was the only home i knew.

It was the 70's up to the early 80's when we were there, it was a community, loads of people lived there full time, mostly singers - groups.  that is were my sister met her first husband, and her friend met hers.  everyone knew each other, quite a few came from sunderland. The two of the chalets had people living in them.  My dad would canoe down the river, Ann would remember this, as he used to go past the house.  Do u know Irene, Susan and Eric?

At night all the kids would sneek into the abby and play chase and hide.

I remember at christmas Mrs Welsh would go around the caravans and give the kids a old potato bag filled with goodies, arh the memories.

we lived in the top sloping field that now has a few caravans and tents it faces the field that had the cows in and the farm.

What is Ann going to do with the other field that you are talking about? Is it the one with the line of 4 lots of caravans in?
