I was thinking of buying one of these mini coolers just to put milk, cheese & butter in (there's one in Woolworths for £20). We have a 12v (85amp) leisure battery, does any one know what sort of life expectancy it will have running one of these.
I'd love to get a 3 way fridge but will wait until next year as I think our last camping trip will be at the end of this month.
The blue face was due to it being a new topic and not having any replies at that time!
The coolers are very good - an remarkably efficient given the right circumstances. They should be plugged into the car regularly, I doubt the battery would last any great length of time - probably not more than a weekend because there's a fan running to keep the air exchange at the right temp. - I think!
As said before the cooler would soon drain the battery.
Do you have electric hook up? If yes you can purchase a mains adapter that the 12 volt on the cooler plugs into and then you can run it off mains whilst camping.
The coolers do a good job keeping things fresh. We have just recently upgraded and I now have a fridge in my cruiser but we still use the cooler to keep the beer chilled!!
We have a cooler box, which we run of a leisure battery. We found without electric hook-up that the battery ran flat very quickly, but we have found a solar panel which trickle charges the leisure battery the same as a battery charger.
If you add some of those freezer packs, prepared in the freezer at home and have the cooler plugged into the car while running the cooler will act as a coolbox and keep milk and bread fresh at least overnight when unplugged.
Before getting my three way - and using it on gas while stopped - I used a cooler for a few years as above and it worked.
But (isn't there always one?) if you leave it in the car in the sun, unplugged, while you set up, everything will melt. Guess how I know :-(
Just put it in the shade unplugged and it will stay cool for hours.
------------- best cheers
Frank
