I'm in the market for either a Pennine Pathfinder or a Conway Crusader.  How do I choose?

Are you buying new or pre loved?

Very little to choose between the 2, it will come down to personal preference.  conways close by pushing the beds in and Pennines by folding the beds over.  People have commented on the fixtures and fittings but since they're now both produced by the same company I doubt there's much to choose.

It will be whatever feels right or is at the right price for you.  Either way you will love it.

You go to somewhere they have both and try putting them up! you decide which colour you prefer. Then you buy a pennine!

The Crusader folds by pushing the beds in, the Pathfinder by folding them over, but they are assisted by gas struts so there is very little effort involved (I can unfold and fold ours single-handed).  The Crusader is blue, the Pathfinder is green.  The Pathfinder has one 4'6" wide bed - both (fixed) beds in the Crusader are 4' wide .... I think that's about it!!

PS - I love my Pathfinder 'cos he's GREEN!!!!!!

This is a good old debate.  You will get loads of comments from Pathfinder owners as they feel, rightly, inferior to Conway owners.

Incoming.....

We have had a few conways including the Crusader.  Loved every one of them and can highly recomend them.  Not had a Pathfinder but in the last two years, I think, they have been made by the same company.  Our Crusader was green, it was a 2000 model.  Not so keen on the "Harry Potter" colouring of the new ones.  The awning looks to be better though as the roof material is lighter and brightens up the awning.

As Jan says find somewhere with both and check them out side by side. you will like/dislike bits of each.

Good hunting.

We looked at teh two side by side and we loved the Pathfinder.   Easy to put up annd we left the awning zipped on over the summer, though it has now been taken off for now.  We're still camping but the camper is big enough for weekends.  The only reason we are no longer using the awning is drying it at home.

Look at both, then buy tha Pathfinder!

Welcome to the site by the way.

I bought a Crusader cos thats is what I found on Ebay at the right price near to me.  I didn't have any particular preference either way.   Having said that I like the fact that both beds are the same size.  No squabbling about the big bed.   I think the beds are a bit bigger than 4 ft though.  Well they seem bigger.  My hubby and I manage to sleep in one without killing each other.  We are used to a king sized bed at home and when we stay at the mother in laws we are in a 4ft bed there and nearly ready to kill each other after two nights.

Can't find any other reason to prefer one against the other apart from the folding up mechanism.  I have to say the Pathfinder does sound as if it may be easier, but I have not tried it and I have not had any problems putting the Crusader up on my own.  I am only liccle and getting on a bit too!!!

I prefer blue personally, but the green suits me fine too.  Blends in with the trees better.  Thinking about that though I have just realised that is probably why that ruddy great wood pigeon kept landing on the roof last time we were away.  There I was sitting on the loo at silly o'clock in the morning and the damn thing decided to land on the canvas directly above my head and started coooing.   Well I gave the canvas a good punch and it took off - wish I could have seen the look on it's face!

Maybe he wouldn't have landed on an unnatural blue object.   Do pigeons see in colour?

Jan P,

Best laugh today and its getting late.

I agree though. Have a look at the Pennine and note items like the sink and hob are seperate so much easier to lift and connect.

Sprung interior mattresses and our Pullman has a water heater which we adore. Beats washing in cold water any day.

Watch out for chipboard in the construction.

Examine the fit and sealing round doors and lockers. Some seem designed to leak.

Well i'll have to go with the pathfinder, ask any technician & the answer will probably be the same.
I suppose familiarity with your own unit will help when it comes to erecting them, but we all find the conway harder to erect than the pennines, all that pulling and heaving with that little wire handle is all to much for us, & the lifting and flapping at the canvas to get it to lift and then it slides back down again as the bed shoots back into the damned thing, then theres losing the little pins that hold it open, ( funnily enough a salesman lost 2 today and we had to fashion 2 out of 2 tent pegs, they worked quite well actually spot on for diameter, so if u lose yours !!!)
As iv'e said before iv'e got a 1987 esterel folding caravan, we love it, had it 10 yrs, absolutely no way would i change it for a camper, but im 52, with 1 wife, 1 30yr old son and 3 rugrat boys known as grandkids, no way are the latter lot coming on holiday with me & her cos its limited space & only 3 berth (have u noticed how many people write it birth as in avin a sprog).
If i got a 6 bertha id be well in the doodle with them.
Yea corse i luvsya son as longas i can givya back sharpish like.
