Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a folding camper but with the selection available I'm at a loss which one to go for.

I need 4 berths, my wife need toilet facilities, a minimum 3 burner hob & grill and to be cosy and warm when the weather is a little chilly.

Any suggestion, apart from buying a caravan

Have had an 1989 4/5 berth Dandy for the past ten years. Kids now 18 and 15 and still coming on holiday with us so sleep in tents. Its winterised (went to the Peak District one year and had minus 0 temperatures but was lovely and warm with the heater).

Although we had thought the kids may not come for much longer we are now looking for a Destiny - would not think of getting a caravan - too much trouble storing, towing etc. The kids have said they will come with the girlfriends if we get a Destiny. Younger one says can he have the 4/5 berth for himself for when he learns to drive.

Have had the best holidays in ours.

Conway Crusader or Pennine Pathfinder I would say.  Nothing in it except the way in which you unfold it.  Both will give you the same facilities.  Only difference inside that you may notice is the Pennine has a larger bed and a smaller one.   I think the larger is about 4' 6" wide or maybe a bit more and the smaller one is about 3' 6".

A pathfinder owner is going to come along and shoot me down if flames now!

You could also buy a folding campper and a Porta Potty. With children it is good to be able to move the toilet so they can get to it without waking everyone.

The awning or a seperate toilet tent work well for some. Dont buy a caravan unless you can afford to buy a powerfull 4WD.

Are there any dealers that hire campers out for weekend or so so that I could try out the different makes?

Tow bar no problem all fitted and with all the electrics.

Must admit I don't know any one with an fc and not too sure if I would feel Ok about borrowing one, just in case of any mishaps. Hired ones would at least have insurance to cover for such eventualities, hopefully.

There was one site which hired out folding camper but - and excuse the pun - it folded.  I can understand your reticence re borrowing someone else's - never an easy situation even with someone you are close to. 

Perhaps you might ask if one one on this site is likely to be at a site near you, so that you could see them being erected/packed down?
