May not be of much help but at least this will get rid of your posts sad blue face.
I suppose this all depends upon what material the bedboards are made from. I assume the manufacturers have considered the exposure to elements when selecting the material to be used.
I wouldnt be surprised if some varnishes could react detrimentally with the material and may effect its performance in the long run.
i suggest contacting the manufacturer of your unit outlining what you would like to do and see if they think it will be detrimental to the material.
