Hi everyone merry xmas! some advice please...... still quite new to all this- we went on our first camping trip in august loved it had to come home early because my waters went!!! our little baby girl Beaux-Maddison was born 6 weeks early!!! back to the point we were thinking of going again march/april cant wait do you think it will be too cold? and any advice on camping with a ickle baby we have a heater but still not sure (have trigano trailer tent)
March / April can be quite mild and if you have a heater in the TT then there should be no problem just use up the site electricity as You are paying for it anyway.
Well ours were October/November babies and all went at easter. We used a carrycot or travel cot. Wrapped them up and put a blanket over the top of the travel cot to stop draughts. They were all ok. Numbers 1,2 and 3 had a ridge tent number 4 the luxury of a frame tent. We didn't have electric hookup either!
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
Same hear our daughter cristina was 4 months old when she first went camping in a ridge tent no EHU just carry cot place on top of buble wrap for insulation underneath and like Jan sheet over the whole carrycot to stop drafts
Hi Sarah & Jay. There are lots of parents on here who have camped with babies from being very little (we aren't in that group so I can't offer any direct advice).
There have been lots of discussions on this topic before. here is just one thread with lots of good advice here
My daughter (now 13) was born April 12 and her first night camping (folding camper - no mains, just small gas heater!) was when she we 4 weeks old. Her first week under canvas was at 6 weeks old. She always loved camping (still does) and took her first steps in a field!! Babies are resiliant little creatures - make sure she's warm enough (but not too warm - easily done!) and you will all have a great time. And don't worry unduly about her crying in the night - as parents you are 'tuned' to hear her and respond to her cries in a way the rest of us aren't, so even if your neighbours hear a cry, they should have very few problems ignoring it and going to sleep (not fair is it?!!!). When Little Scamp was tiny, I used disposable sterilising bags - you filled them with cold water and hung them up,and used them just like the cold-water steriliser tank at home, but with no wasted space!! Of course, if you are on mains you may be able to use a steam steriliser (check the wattage to make sure you don't overload the supply). A remember - a baby will not turn to dust if it isn't bathed every day - just do the 'important little places' with a baby wipe or two and give a good bath when you get back home!!!! Above all - relax and enjoy the freedom.
Same here little J was born Sept 2004 and went camping the following Easter, we used a travel cot and kept her wrapped up and also put a hat on her at night, when we went the second time in May the site did not have any baby baths so we stuck her in the dish washing sinks she loved every minute of it. upto now little J has been camping 7 times and once to France, hopefully next time she will be putting up the tent.
We took my daughter camping for the first time at 3 months and my son when he was 6 months old. We have had no trouble at all, we always try and get electric hook up for the steam steriliser and have never had a problem, although you can get the pre-sterilised bottles which I always take a couple of in case of emergency's, (we have only needed to use 1 once and that was on a meet for a sick puppy). We have a folding camper and just have 1 heater which we do leave on all night. We have had one problem with cold when there was a power cut 1 night and we bought my son into our bed, where he soon warmed up, my daughter slept straight through, she didn't feel the cold, although we did cover her with an extra thick blanket.
As has already been said just enjoy yourself we have found that my daughter sleeps better whilst camping must be all the fresh air.
