We are feeling guilty as we see our Pennine Pullman sitting out in the foul weather.

It is perched up on wooden axle stands but it is still getting mucky from the dirt and snow gathers on the top. So I am putting the tarpaulin back over the first day it is dry.

I bought the tarp last year from Screwfix for about £20 and it worked well despite being a bit too big. It covered the sides as well as top and kept everything dry inside but water tended to pool in places. It would also took ages to remove so would deter thieves.

To form a ridge along the top and seperate tarp from cover, I am going to use about 10 empty 2 ltr plastic milk bottles. These I shall string together on a polypropelene rope attached to front and rear so they lift the tarp clear and allow air to circulate and rain to run off.

The tarp also stops rain running down the sides and staining and prevents water getting into the gaps between doors and panels.

My Dandy is currently up on axle stands with a Tarp over it. We've just started planning the holidays for the year, roll on spring!

Hi Edward,

Sounds like a really good and economical way to get over this problem.  We've been quoted £145 for a cover for our Pathfinder and just don't have that sort of money, especially as I think we could use it to pay for time away in her!

It is better to have a loose  fitting cover than a tailored one. The aim is to keep the water out but enable the air to circulate.

Last year I fixed the cover in place directly over the trailer cover and it worked well apart from the pools of water forming on the flat areas. By forming a ridge I have ensured the water drains off whilst allowing air to circulate underneath.

The tarp has brass eyelets round the edges and I have tied these down to the chassis with short lengths of polypropelene rope. Last year the wind tended to lift the cover and make it flap occasionally but it was not so well secured.

I look forward to removing it in spring and getting the wheels rolling.
