happens along while you are enroute? do you empty the car boot to get the jack out, or do you carry a spare one? or are you the butch type who will hold it up while the wife or hubby changes the wheel?

I always carry a small scissor jack in the trailer.
But that's because I've learnt from experience

Blew a tire this last summer (puncture really) and had a He__ of a time. The jack was packed away (as always, under everything) and the spare (dumb me) wasn't inflated. Called the German ADAC, they came, they saw, they repaired (both tires!!!) and sold me a mini jack for the trailer along with a nut driver to loosen the lug nuts on the trailer. Since then, nothing.
BUT If you have a puncture, have AVAILABLE(this means in reach) the proper tools and equipment. Don't try to repair the tyre yourself on the freeway, change it out and have it repaired elsewhere! and even if you don't have to have them in England, Get an orange, yellow or red safety vest and wear it while out of the car!! I have seen both with and without and I believe they are the best thing since buttered toast!!! You are SEEN!!!!!!! And in Germany with cars swinging by at 200KMH!!!!

I have fixed our trailer spare to the front of the trailer. It has a padlock so it can't be stolen easily. I also have a small jack which is kept in the trailer but always at the top of the pile. Never had a puncture yet thankfully.

This allows you to go upto 50MPH, perfect if you just need to get somewhere where you can get it permanantly repaired. I assume thats what it means, it says not for use for vehicles travelling over 50MPH.

Oh! Sorry, wrong product this is the one you want to look at, it is from the same company.....www.tyreprotector.com/motorists.htm and says at the bottom of the page.......
Tyre Protector is suitable for Plant & Machinery, HGV & PSV vehicles, cars, motorcycles, caravans and trailers and any pneumatic tyre. |
I've never tried it but I do know someone who has and swears by it, they have it in their horse box tyres........Sorry about mis-information to start..

I have been using Ultraseal in my car tyres as well as van tyres for years. It really does work.
One important point. It will not protect in the event of catastrophic tyre failure such as running over something that seriously cuts your tyre, or hitting a kerb and ripping the sidewall.

We carry a can of punture emergency inflating aerosol. Never needed it - but dead handy as a "get you home" fix.

We also have a can of puncture repair aerosol, under the front passenger seat so I know where it is, I also have fire extinquisher there as well. We also have made sure we have the locking wheel nut keys at hand in a safetly hidden spot in the car and not in the boot.
