Hello everyone,

Well it is getting that time of year when I start to think about camping.  My first trip is the Easter holidays.  I have had my Pennine folding camper from new in 2002, I have used it about five times a year since then. Question is, when do I need to think about having a service performed on it.  I was thinking of booking it in for one but not sure if it really needs it, I don't want to fork out for one if I don't have to.  If someone could give me some advice I would really appreciate it.

One more thing, When should I consider re-proofing the canvas, I was under the impression I could use it for approx 10yrs before I need to do it, again not sure that is right or not.

If I do need to have a service where is the best place to take it I live in Cheshire.

Thanks

Antony

Antony,

If you have looked after the canvas and folding mechanisms from new it is unlikely you will need to do anything with the top part of the FC. If it is still waterproof then leave it as it is. Just think about re proofing when you notice rain dripping into the cabin. This will happen in small areas rather than all over so no need to worry about being away when it happens.

As it is now 4 years old just check that the wheels are rotating as they should, grease the tow hitch mechanism - usually two nipple points behind the hitch. And check the hand brake. The tyres should be good for another year or two, the advice is to replace tyres every 5 years but I suspect many go beyond that.

If you do want a full service then I would imagine any caravan dealer would give you a price. You may even be fairly close to Pennine themselves.

The servicing is the same as for a caravan. Brakes wheels gas etc. You may find it hard to get in to anywhere other than the dealer. We had ours done last year as I wanted an external bbq point put in and we thought while its there go for it. They changed the gas tubing which after two years I felt was unnecessary and greased the steadies etc which we could have done. They did check the alko hitch and brakes as well. We'll take it back again when its five years old, I certainly wouldn't have it done every year.
