I use a digital compressor from Argos - set the pressure that you want your tyres and it switches off automatically when the pressure is reached. Always check with a hand held gauge even though the one fitted to the compressor is probably more accurate than those at you local garage (unless it's only a few days old).

Thanks Beechy,
What is the compressor called that you got from Argos, I may go and have a look at the weekend.

Hi AntMacc, I can't remember the name but it cost around £24 - £25. It has a small lamp and a detachable digital tyre pressure gauge.
I still use another digital tyre pressure gauge, that I use for my motorbike tyres, as verification.
Hope this info helps

I carry one of the 'Power Pack' devices which incorporate compressor, various lamps, 12v cigarette lighter outlet, and battery for jump starting. Found it most usefuL
However, as already stated, do not rely on the pressure gauge on these things.
I use a £4.99 digital tyre pressure guage from Halfords. Toleance + or - 1psi.
