Try the ferry sites on the net, they all allow you to get a quote online and you can then compare them. As for getting your camper on and of the ferry it is roll on roll off and is very simple.

We went with our camper to Guernsey using the Seacat.Basically we just had to drive on and do a u turn at end and exit same way you entered .The staff in charge were brill and shifted most of the cars out of our way first .Guernsey is a great place to visit with your camper ,least of all as they don`t allow caravans and also no worries about having to drive on other side of the road ,roll on August as we are hoping to go again this year.
You'll pay big money to take a trailer with you on hull-zeebrugger plus if its France your off to, the drive to calais DOWN the coast will take an hour or so.
We live in the NE and are going dover-dunkirk for £120 return in August with a FC, on a weekend sailing both ways, 1700hrs out, 1245hrs back to uk.
The DFDS routes sound cheap at first but once you put accomodation & meals on, it bumps up the price. Also I believe if you book on a 'special offer' and miss your ferry you could be liable for the cost of another single journey on top
The train is really good too. Though probably the most expensive it certainly is the quickest and best if you don't like sailing! The other thing is you are able to miss your train and just get on the next one maybe 20 minutes later.
We like the overnight crossing Portsmouth to Caen if going anywhere near the west of France. This year we are taking the long ferry down to Bilbao to have a look at the north coast of Spain, then drive back via Biarritz, Gascony and Dordogne then up to Caen.
Whichever route you choose, there are no problems with a folder.
We towed our Cardinal over to Ireland last summer - drive straight on, and off the other side, no U turns! Originally I booked the motorhome, it was £184 return but I booked on a special offer so it was well under half normal peak season rate. I didn't have to pay any extra when I told them it was a car & trailer instead.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
The ferry crossing with a FC is a doddle. NOT Speed Ferries (length). If you shop at Tesco you can reduce the cost fo P7O ferry travel to a quarter i.e £2.50 voucher equivalent to £10.00 ferry cost. This could make the Hull-Zeebrugge crossing a reasonable bet. The FC crossing Dover-Calais at the height of the season is less than £200, and you should be able to get the FC over for nothing if you cross through the night. The travel in France is fine and the French motorway toll for the FC is that of a trailer rather than a caravan (discount). There are numerous English site owners in France and I'm certain they will tellyou how far they are from the channel ports.
Car's, folding campers and ferries do go together so don't worry!
I would be inclined to suggest first that you have a browse round and read some stuff and pick the area of france you want to visit before you pick your ferry crossing, especially for your first time. The crossing time and then journey onwards makes such a big difference to the comfort of the journey. France is such a vast country it can make all the difference as to where you cross and your final destination!
We have crossed with most of the companies, from the western ports and the short-sea crossings, most recently Norfolkline Dover- Dunkerque and can highly recommend them, Norfolkline are so reasonable too. But I have to say too that we haven't had a bad experience with any of the companies/crossings.
We are off to the cote d'azur this year (June) and going Dover- Calais (not taking the camper as was cheaper to book ready-erected) and stopping overnight on route down at Beaune, Dijon, if say we were going western, atlantic side I would more than likely have looked at the western crossings (which are pricier but your driving time is shorter).
France is brill ( we have been going every year now for 14 years!) , if you're remotely interested then enquire more and venture on!! you won't be disappointed
