Last weekend saw my first use of the camper in avery cold Norfolk (wished I'd paid the huge cash for underfloor heating). Anyway, after telephoning Pennine to be told to keep filling the toilt flush above the max level to ensure it fills beyond a simple cupful, I now have a question.
Firstly, I've been recommended to empty the toilet fulsh "every" time I transpoty the unit to assit wight balancing. Is the a practise veryone follows or unnecessary ? If so, I've read the method is to either keep flushing ages o empty te glass pipe inside the external door.
I've come from a Conway trailor tent to a PAthfinder. How many gadgets and issues can happen on this. Whilst the cool things are cool, the trailor tent certainly in its simplicity - and quality of canvas - still has an attraction.
I fill the flush tank at the start of the season, top up as need be and only empty it when storing for winter.
There is a good argument that it is not sensible to keep a full water container in a towed unit as this will add to the weight carried; and if not completely full the water will slosh around and could cause imbalance whilst towing.
To my mind, the toilet flush tank is too small for these concerns to be of any great consequence, and I have certainly had no problems with my own unit.
When it does come time to empty the tank, I have found pulling the clear plastic tube from its top bung and inverting same to be the quickest and easiest method - although do give thought to where the fluid is going as it generally has chemical content and could damage plant life etc.
....ah the combi option - have porta potti will travel...or a bucket with lid of course (nicely decorated of course to separate one from the more common camper... )
This reminds me of the cara's and m'cara's we had. I always dumped the water and gunge but it was a pain to have to do it every time and tempting to travel loaded.
We deliberately chose a Pullman without bog, again for this reason. We have a porta potti which can be put in the boot of the car or shifted on the wastemaster and is emptied and filled at the same time.
The only problem we had with the extras on our Pathfinder was the loo. On replacing the tank after emptying same, the fuse holder had dropped slightly and it was wrecked when the tank was shoved home. Apparently this is a common problem - pity no-one mentioned it at the time or put something in the instruction manual. Re the filling and emptying - at the start of the season and the end of the season, in between times keep it topped up. You will (may) find the dreaded black bits coming out of the flush after a year or so - everyone does and there is a solution for this - though I'm damned if I remember what!
