Hi, we're noticing more of the environmentally friendly sites are insisting on breathable groundsheets like softex, comfimat, aerotex and eco-mat to name but a few.  Anyone got any recommendations?

We've got one, it's a sort of woven plastic type thing, stops the worm casts and mud getting through but doesn't kill the grass, and quite nice to walk on - it was expensive but we're delighted with it.  I think it was made by Isabella the awning people.

We have eco-matting. Very eco but useless in the wet! wasn't cheap either.

we used a breathable ground sheet for the first time at easter but still ended up putting a pvc ground sheet on top as our socks just got wet with the ground being damp, great for the summer but early on in the year?

Thanks everyone, I have also completed some investigation; there are two types both of which are not impervious to water ingress as that defeats the object of eco mat which is not to damage the grass below.  The close weave is apparently better and prevents most moisture getting through except on water logged ground.  We purchased carpetina from West Runton camping & caravaniing online and will report back how it performs.

we bought breathable groundsheet this year when we bought our tt and like others have said its not cheap i thought it was ok warm underfoot handy when the kids spill a drink etc but when it rained and the grass got wet so did our tt which wasnt ideal i also wasnt keen on the grass growing through after 2 days if i'd been on holiday for a fortnight i would have needed my lawn mower so like previous people have said the second time around i took my old pvc groundsheet with us and out this down to sort of defeats the object of the breathable groundsheet but i hate wet feet especially in the morning

We love ours, we have softex, lovely and warm on the feet, looks good, and if it rains bad and it gets a bit muddy, we stick it on the line and hose it down.

I disn't notice wet feet even after loads of rain.

We bought carpetina on recommendations from this site and used it on our main holiday.  It was fabulous - soft and warm to walk on.  No worm casts and the grass was still in good condition underneath after a two week holiday.

Expensive but we think well worth it.

the groundsheet was excellent expensive but glad i bought it the only problem was on holiday this year the day we were going home it rained really heavy and with the rain running down the site it couldnt be helped it also rained heavy for one day whilst away again and the same thing happened other than that it was great really warm even found myself sitting on the floor instead of the chairs so the wet feet wasnt any fault of the groundsheet just bad weather.

I have to agree with most people, its comfortable to walk on but when it rains it just doesnt keep the water out so your feet can get pretty soggy. I always keep the trusty PVC groundsheet in the storage locker in the tt though just in case im ever caught out.
