Hi All,

Just wondered if anyone had any idea of the best places to get tyres for my vintage Creighton Binns trailer tent. it has been stored out this winter and i notice that the side walls are starting to show signs of cracking. I took the sizes off the side of the tyres but no one seems to know what they are and are asking me to take the tyres or trailer in. I'm a bit reluctant to do this as i think i would feel some pressure to buy the tyres and no be able to shop about for the best price once they had matched them.

Thanks Fiona

What are the sizes, Fiona? I recently got tyres for my 1990 TT, and ringing round local tyre firms, I got a good price including fitting. The small local companies seemed better than the big tyre-fitting chains.

If you do end up taking the tyres or the TT into get a quote, you are under no obligation to buy from them. Just explain you are getting quotes from several places (or say you need to get the go ahead from your other half, that is always accepted as an excuse!!!)

Hi Deborah,
Just popped down the garden to check again. They are Goodyear G8 5.203 s10. No one seemed to be able to match these. I know there is no obligation but I am a bit too soft i think!

Hi Fiona,

I have looked on the NTTA website which has lots of useful info on trailer tyres, but   I can't see those tyre markings mentioned. At a guess, I would say the 10 means they are 10 inch diameter, but the other numbers are a mystery to me, I am afraid. You could try contacting the NTTA for advice via their website, they should be able to tell you what the equivalent new tyre would be. I hope that helps.

Deborah

I have just had a quick look for the tyre size that you mentioned.

The 5.20 x 10 is the tyre size and the 3 donates that it is a 3 ply tyre.

I would think that a crossply mini tyre will do you for your T/T.

I hope this helps.

DAVID J

Hi,

These are the same size/type tyres I got for my Camp-let TT a few weeks ago. I paid just short of £52, which included fitting (I daresay, I could have got cheaper, but I was quite happy with the service and the guy appeared quite knowledgable about TTs).

We also need to get a spare wheel too as we didn't get one with the trailer. Bit worried about it last year but thankfully never had any need for one. Would still be happier to have one though.!
