Hi, It has been really interesting reading all the messages over the last few months - I have learnt loads of useful information. The best part has been the enthusiasm of everyone. It definitely encouraged us to go ahead and buy our fc.
What I want to know now is, if we leave the fridge shut in our fc, will it go mouldy? I noticed there was a bit of water in the bottom of the fridge when we had to open it up to dry the canvas after our very first weekend away. I can't see a way of leaving it ajar for travelling.
Our fridge lock has two positions to lock it one clamps it shut the other locks it in a slightly open position. I always wipe the fridge out with a detol wipe before locking it in the open position and have nevre had any problem with it smelling, even after storing for over winter.
The only time i left it closed was a BIG mistake, I'd cleaned & dried it out thoroughly - so I thought - before I shut it, on opening it again it was disgusting, mouldy and smelly, the mould leaves stains which won't come off. So now I prop it open every time. Mine doesn't have a lock to keep it opn, so I wedge it with a water bottle, or can of beans, anything, really!
We have a trigano with electrolux fridge and as has been said above there is a button on the top of the door which depresses into one of two holes. One hole to keep it closed and one to keep it ajar.
Same as lisa says but because our wardrobe lays down next to it i shove a bit of thick carboard between the door to stop it closing fully, and lisa my misses has a thing for those wipes too.we even have facial wipes what ae they all about!!!!
I put the little bags of silica gel that come in shoe boxes etc if I haven't managed to dry it completely. At a meet last year I needed somewhere to shove the bread rolls(complete with ham) while we finished loading the car! Two weeks later....................
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
Thanks for the advice. I shall look carefully next time we open it up to see if there are two lock positions, otherwise it had better be a piece of cardboard. I always like a high tech solution to a problem.
Our fridge also has a two position catch and we have never had problems when the catch is left set to allow ventilation. When I made the inevitable mistake, and locked it down, a black mildew like deposit formed inside the fridge. I treated it with 'Milton' solution and it has not returned.
I made the mistake of shutting our fridge on the locked position and yes it was mouldy when i opened it. No real harm done ,i just used a bit of miltons and all the mould went, and has never come back. I always put some kitchen towel on the bottom shelf and in the freezer compartment, it absorbs any remaining water.
